Weather update: Thunderstorm over most parts of the country during next 5 days

Weather alert India: Amid rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted that several parts of India are likely to witness rainfall during the next five days.

''A wet spell with thunderstorm activity is likely over most parts of the country during the next five days,'' IMD said.

The weather agency said that the sudden change in weather is due to the Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation that lies over south Pakistan and neighbourhoods in lower and middle levels.

''A cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan at lower levels. A trough or wind discontinuity runs from west Vidarbha to north Tamil Nadu in lower levels,'' IMD said.

Under their influence, several states are likely to receive rain or thundershowers during the next five days.

In Northwest India, IMD said that Light/moderate scattered rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning over plains of Northwest India during next 5 days.

''Hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh on 27th; over Uttarakhand during 27th April-01st May; over Punjab and Haryana on 29th & 30th April. Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 01st May,'' the MeT department said.

Similar conditions are also predicted over south India. According to the IMD,''Scattered/fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) very likely over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during next 5 days.''
