WB: Raped for 2 years and with no help, minor takes a stand against parents

Jalpaiguri, Apr 11: In a shocking incident in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, a 16-year old girl filed a compalint against her father, brother and uncle for raping her for 2 years.

In her police statement, she said she had become pregnant twice and had attempted suicide four times. Surprisingly, she did not get any help from her mother also, who instead told her "they are your father, uncle and brother only, not some strangers."

On Thursday, when she could not bear anymore, she told her story to one of her teachers. On the very same day, she was gagged, tied and raped by her 20-year old brother. On Friday, her teacher and the school principal took her to the Dhupguri police station, where an FIR was registered.

The police arrested the uncle immideately, while the brother and the father were arrested later that day. The mother, however, is absconding. The girl has been sent to a Child Welfare Committee in Jalpaiguri district.

Expressing their shock were the girl's teachers. One of the male teachers said,"I am a father and I don't know what to say. We are shocked."

Even more shocking was the fact that the village where she stayed knew about the entire thing, but did nothing. That is not all, the girl had earlier left her home and went to live with her grandparents in the neighboring village. When she told her granfather about her ordeal, he scolded her father. But when she lost her grandfather, her only strength of protest was gone."
