Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal Denied Entry To Gurgaon Mall

In an effort to better understand the challenges faced by his delivery personnel, Goyal donned a Zomato delivery agent's red t-shirt and joined his wife, Grecia Munoz, in making food deliveries. However, during one of his deliveries, security personnel at Ambience Mall denied him entry through the main entrance, instructing him to take the stairs instead.

Despite the inconvenience, Goyal persevered, climbing three flights of stairs to reach the restaurant where he was to pick up the food. Upon arriving at the restaurant, Goyal encountered further difficulties. He observed that delivery agents were forced to sit on the floor while waiting for their orders, as they were not permitted to enter the dining area.

Sharing his experience on social media, Goyal emphasized the need for malls to foster more humane conditions for delivery partners, stating, "We need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners."

After the video gained traction online, Goyal received a response from the owner of Ambience Mall, Arjun. The owner reached out to assure Goyal that steps would be taken to enhance the experience for delivery agents. In a follow-up post, Goyal shared that the mall management has created a designated "comfortable online food delivery pickup point" for all delivery partners.

"Thanks to Arjun for noticing my post and taking quick action. He's also agreed to let us employ some 'walkers' inside the mall to quickly shuttle food from the restaurant to these pickup points," Goyal revealed.

Goyal concluded his message by encouraging other mall owners to develop "innovative solutions" to improve conditions for delivery personnel and restaurants. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by delivery agents in urban environments and the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance their working conditions.
