A viral video captured the moment when Khandekar, who was dressed in civil attire, was mistakenly hit by a police stick. The policeman, realizing the error, was escorted away by his colleagues, who promptly informed him of the mistake. The officer was seen apologizing to Khandekar, and the two were later observed engaging in a conversation.

The incident took place at Dak Bangla square, a busy area in Patna. Following the breach of barricades at the JP Golambar intersection by protesters, the security forces had to use both lathi-charges and water cannons to manage the situation and disperse the crowd.

The Bharat Bandh, organized by the 'Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti,' was held in response to an August 1 Supreme Court ruling. This ruling, delivered by a seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, permitted the further sub-classification of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes by state governments to allocate quotas to more backward castes within these groups.

The bandh's supporters are demanding a reversal of this judgment and a rejection by the central government, along with several other requests, including a new parliamentary act on reservations and increased representation for these groups in the higher judiciary.
