Warangal youth make 'Collector Amrapali idol' for Ganesha festival, draw flak
There are many ways to show adulation for someone but youth in Warangal went one step ahead. In a bid to express their admiration of Warangal collector Amrapali Kata, the youngsters got an idol of hers holding a Ganesha to be installed at a pandal in the locality. The bureaucrat said that it came as a shock to her.
Youngsters believed to be from Bapuji Nagar of Kazipet town in Warangal have prepared an idol of the collector caressing baby Ganesha in her lap, The youngsters intended to install the idol and offer prayers to it in the local Ganesha pandal but were stopped by authorities. On receiving information about the bizarre show of respect, Warangal police arrived at the spot and stopped the men from going ahead with their plans to offer pujas to the idol of IAS officer Amrapali Kata.
The locals also raised objections to the young men's attempt. While the entire city of Warangal is all praises for collector Amrapali Kata, worshipping an idol of hers came as bizarre and shocking, even to the collector herself. After objections were raised, the idol was repainted but was not installed. The picture of the idol modelled on collector Amrapali Kata went viral with several netizens expressing anger over unnecessarily dragging the collector into the matter.
Warangal Urban collector Amrapali Kata has been lauded for her exemplary administration. She made it to headlines when she gave away 500 tickets to Baahubali movie to class D workers as a mark of appreciation. She arranged a special screening of the movie for the workers to thank them for cleaning up Warangal.
