Vyapam Whistleblower and Sub Inspector Injured During Arrest Attempt in Madhya Pradesh

A whistleblower involved in the notorious Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh and a sub-inspector were injured during an arrest attempt. The incident occurred when the officer went to apprehend the whistleblower, Ashish Chaturvedi, based on a court warrant. Both Chaturvedi and SI Ashish Sharma sustained head injuries, although their accounts of the events differ significantly.

Injuries Reported in Vyapam Arrest Attempt

Chaturvedi reportedly banged his head against a wall during the police visit to execute the arrest warrant. This led to a scuffle with SI Sharma, resulting in both being hospitalised. Inspector Mangal Singh Papola from Jhansi Road police station noted that Chaturvedi had previously evaded arrest on three to four occasions by disappearing before the warrant date.

Allegations and Counterclaims

SI Sharma claimed that Chaturvedi assaulted him by hitting him on the head and punching him, which necessitated hospitalisation. In contrast, Chaturvedi denied these allegations, stating, "I have lodged complaints against Gwalior's SP and other officers, which is why the police are working against me."

Chaturvedi further alleged that on Saturday, SI Sharma and a police team forcibly entered his home, misbehaved with his father and nearby women, and prevented him from contacting his lawyer at the police station. He asserted that he has video evidence of the incident to support his claims.

Background of the Vyapam Scam

The Vyapam scam is a multi-crore admission and recruitment racket that has garnered significant attention. The case involves fraudulent activities related to entrance exams for professional courses and government jobs in Madhya Pradesh.

Inspector Papola mentioned that when police arrived at Chaturvedi's residence with a court-issued warrant, he became agitated and slammed his head against the wall. This led to a confrontation with SI Sharma. Papola added that Chaturvedi would now be presented in court.

Chaturvedi accused the police of fabricating a false narrative about him fighting with them. He insisted that he has video footage proving his version of events. The situation remains tense as both parties stand by their conflicting accounts.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions between whistleblowers and authorities in high-profile cases like Vyapam. As investigations continue, all eyes are on how this legal battle unfolds in court.
