Venkaiah Naidu elected as next Vice President of India
Naidu, the VP elect will be sworn in after August 10. Vice President Hamid Ansari's term ends on August 10.
Venkaiah Naidu has won the Vice Presidential elections. He beat Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the VP poll that was held on Saturday. Naidu will be the 13th vice president of India. He will take the oath of office on August 11.

Out of 760 valid votes, Venkaiah Naidu got 516 votes and UPA's candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi got 244 votes.
The polling percentage was high. The total polling percentage recorded was 98.21. 771 out of 785 votes were polled.
The voting began at 10 am Saturday and ended at 5 pm this evening. Counting of votes began at 6 pm, after which the results are likely to be announced after 7 pm.
While Naidu has the support of the NDA parties along with AIADMK, TRS and YSRCP, Gandhi will get the votes of MPs belonging to the Congress, RJD, JD(U), NCP, Left and other smaller parties. In the Vice-Presidential election, members of both Houses of Parliament vote in a closed ballot.
Earlier in the day, Naidu had said that he had not campaigned for the election. I wrote a polite letter to all seeking their support. I am confident that many will vote for me, Naidu had also said.
Speaking to the media, Gandhi thanks all the opposition party MPs who voted for him. He wishes Naidu all the best for the new office.
As soon as the results were out Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Venkaiah Naidu on becoming the vice president of India.
I am confident Venkaiah Naidu will serve nation as a diligent & dedicated Vice President, committed to the the goal of nation building, PM Modi tweeted.
While Gulam Nabi Azad has said that Opposition will never compromise on ideology whether we face defeat or victory.
