Kota Srinivasa Rao, Iconic Telugu Actor And Former MLA, Dies At 83
Renowned Telugu actor and former BJP legislator Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away at the age of 83 in the early hours of Monday at his residence in Filmnagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The legendary actor had been battling a prolonged illness and died just two days after celebrating his 83rd birthday.
Born in Kankipadu, Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Kota Srinivasa Rao began his cinematic journey with the film Pranam Khareedhu in 1978. Over an illustrious career spanning more than four decades, he appeared in over 750 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages. Known for his powerful performances, he was especially celebrated for his villainous and character roles.

Some of his most iconic films include Aha Naa Pellanta!, Pratigatana, Khaidi Number 786, Shiva, and Yamaleela, among many others. His unique screen presence and commanding dialogue delivery earned him a special place in the hearts of audiences across generations.
In recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema, Kota Srinivasa Rao was honored with the Padma Shri in 2015. He was also a recipient of nine prestigious Nandi Awards, underscoring his legacy as one of the most respected actors in the Telugu film industry.
Apart from his film career, Kota also played a role in public service, serving as a BJP MLA from the Vijayawada East Assembly constituency between 1999 and 2004.
His death has left the Telugu film fraternity and fans in deep mourning, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, political figures, and admirers across the country.
