Very much in NCP says Ajit Pawar as Maharashtra speaker cuts short Japan visit

Amidst all the talk that he would be quitting the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ajit Pawar has said that he is still with the party.

He clarified that he will not jump ship and remain in the NCP itself. He also set aside rumours that he would be joining another party.

His statements comes in the backdrop of his uncle and NCP supremo, Sharad Pawar also rejecting rumours that his nephew would be jumping ship. "He is busy with election related work and all the reports of an ongoing crisis are false," Sharad Pawar had said.

Ajit Pawar said that he did not take any signatures of NCP MLAs. This is an attempt to create confusion about me he also added.

Meanwhile, reports also said that Ajit Pawar would be attending the Iftaar party to be hosted by Sharad Pawar. He also said that he would do what the party tells him to do.

These clarifications comes amidst television reports that out of the 53 NCP MLAs, 34 may support Ajit Pawar if he decides to ally with the BJP in Maharashtra.

Another report said the Ajit Pawar has the support of 40 MLAs and he has got consent signatures from them. The report also added that Sharad Pawar has not made any counter move.

It may be recalled that in 2019, Ajit Pawar had joined hands with Devendra Fadnavis and formed an 80-hour government in Maharashtra. At that time, Sharad Pawar had prevailed over the NCP MLAs and convinced them not to switch sides. The government eventually collapsed and led to the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) which has the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP and Congress in it.

Meanwhile television reports said that Maharashtra speaker, Rahul Narwekar has cut short his Japan visit amidst the ongoing crisis in the state.
