VD Satheesan Assets And Affidavit Details As Kerala Chief Minister

Senior Congress leader V. D. Satheesan was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday, heading the United Democratic Front government after its sweeping Assembly election win, as several national opposition leaders gathered in Thiruvananthapuram for the change of power from the Left Democratic Front.

As the new administration begins, attention has turned to Satheesan’s election affidavit, which shows that the Chief Minister and family together hold assets close to ₹5.6 crore, including movable wealth, substantial gold holdings and several immovable properties across Kerala.

Documents filed with the Election Commission list Satheesan’s movable assets at ₹53.82 lakh, spread across bank accounts, cash in hand, cooperative bank shares and other financial instruments, along with 35 grams of gold valued at around ₹1.15 lakh recorded in the declaration.

The Chief Minister reported immovable assets worth ₹2.42 crore in the affidavit, describing a mix of ancestral and self-acquired properties located in Paravur, while also listing personal liabilities of ₹24 lakh, which include an outstanding car loan and other dues owed to lenders.

Satheesan’s wife Lakshmipriya disclosed movable assets of ₹68.45 lakh, largely driven by 1,128 grams of gold estimated at about ₹46.53 lakh, with the remaining portion held in bank deposits and additional financial investments, while Lakshmipriya separately reported liabilities amounting to ₹17.45 lakh.

The affidavit notes that Lakshmipriya owns immovable assets valued at ₹1.85 crore, made up of land parcels and residential properties, while the couple’s dependent daughter listed movable assets of ₹9.61 lakh, mainly linked to a Volkswagen Taigun purchased in 2022 and other smaller holdings.

For the 2024-25 financial year, Satheesan declared an annual income of ₹2.84 lakh, derived mainly from salary and allowances as Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, whereas the affidavit records Lakshmipriya’s income as nil during the same assessment period.
