Uttarakhand: Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behar's Son Seriously Injured in Masked Attack

Saurabh Raj Behar, son of Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behar, was attacked by three masked individuals on Sunday. The incident took place in the Awas Vikas area of Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Saurabh, a councilor of the Rudrapur Municipal Corporation, was on his way to a police outpost when the attack occurred. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and is currently in the ICU.

According to police reports, Saurabh was assaulted with sticks and rods by three men on a motorcycle. They fled the scene immediately after the attack. The police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the attackers. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a thorough inquiry into the incident after speaking with MLA Behar.

Political Reactions and Accusations

The attack has sparked significant political reactions. Tilak Raj Behar accused the police of luring his son to the outpost under false pretenses for a compromise meeting. He alleged that this was part of a premeditated conspiracy to harm Saurabh. "My son Saurabh was called under a pre-planned conspiracy under the pretext of a panchayat village council meeting and a life-threatening attack was carried out on him. This is a clear failure of law and order," he stated.

Former MLA Rajkumar Thukral condemned the violence, stating that while political disagreements are common, such acts of hooliganism are unacceptable. "Differences of opinion are natural in politics, but this kind of open hooliganism will not be tolerated under any circumstances," he remarked.

Community Support and Investigation

The news of the attack caused unrest in the area, drawing numerous political leaders, social organisation members, and supporters to the hospital. Among those who visited were Municipal Corporation Mayor Vikas Sharma and Rudrapur MLA Shiv Arora, who met with Tilak Raj Behar to express their support.

Saurabh had reportedly been involved in an argument with a Bharatiya Janata Party leader days before the incident. This led to his summons by police for dispute resolution. The police are investigating all angles as they search for those responsible for the assault.

Tilak Raj Behar, who represents Kichha constituency and is a former state cabinet minister, expressed his determination to find justice for his son. He warned that if the attackers are not apprehended soon, he would personally lead efforts to locate them with his supporters.

Doctors at the hospital continue to monitor Saurabh's condition closely due to its seriousness. The situation remains tense as authorities work to resolve this high-profile case involving political figures in Uttarakhand.
