Uttarakhand BSc Student Arrested for Extortion Attempt Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

A BSc student in Uttarakhand has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 30 lakh from a businessman by impersonating the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The investigation revealed connections to an associate in Armenia.

A BSc student in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 30 lakh from a businessman by claiming association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police identified the accused as Ashish Saini from Bahadrabad. His accomplice, Ajay Hooda, who made threatening calls from Armenia, is originally from Rohtak, Haryana.

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Dobal stated that businessman Ravi Kumar filed a complaint on October 30. Kumar, who owns a vehicle agency, reported receiving threats over the phone from someone claiming to be part of the Bishnoi gang. The caller demanded Rs 30 lakh.

Extortion Attempt Traced to Armenia

The police registered a case under Section 3084 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempting extortion by threatening death or serious harm. Investigations by Haridwar police and the Criminal Intelligence Unit traced the calls to Armenia. It was discovered that Hooda used the number and frequently contacted a number in Bahadrabad, Uttarakhand.

Upon questioning, Saini admitted to conspiring with Hooda to extort money. They believed making ransom calls from abroad would prevent police tracking. Saini provided Hooda with the mobile numbers of Ravi Kumar and his brother for making these calls.

Legal Actions and Arrests

SSP Dobal confirmed Saini's arrest and mentioned efforts are underway to bring Hooda back to India for legal proceedings. The police are taking necessary steps to ensure both individuals face justice for their involvement in this crime.

This incident highlights the lengths individuals may go to in attempts at extortion, using international locations to evade law enforcement. The authorities' swift action demonstrates their commitment to tackling such crimes effectively.
