Uttarakhand's Air Quality Index Shows Significant Improvement This Diwali Compared to Last Year

Uttarakhand experienced a notable improvement in air quality during Diwali this year compared to the previous year. Most cities reported Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in the moderate or satisfactory range. On October 20, Dehradun's AQI was 128, classified as moderate, a significant improvement from last year's 269, which was poor.

In Kashipur, the AQI was 168, considered moderate, while Rishikesh recorded a satisfactory level of 54. Last year, these cities had AQIs of 269 and 175, respectively. This year, Tehri had a satisfactory AQI of 66. Roorkee, Haldwani, and Nainital recorded moderate AQIs of 190, 198, and 111.

Comparative Air Quality Analysis

Compared to other regions, Uttarakhand's cities showed better air quality. Delhi's AQI reached a very poor level of 351 during Diwali. In contrast, Lucknow recorded an AQI of 250, Patna at 226, and Bhopal at 235, all classified as poor.

A government statement credited the improved air quality to technology-driven measures and active administration. Public cooperation also played a crucial role in achieving these results. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted that innovation and collective participation can lead to real change.

Efforts Behind Cleaner Air

R K Sudhanshu, chairman of the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, emphasized that this year's cleaner Diwali resulted from joint efforts. He noted that water spraying via drones and new mechanical sweeping machines contributed significantly. Public awareness campaigns in educational institutions also made a notable impact.

The initiatives taken this year demonstrate the effectiveness of combining technology with public engagement to improve environmental conditions. These efforts have set an example for other regions striving to enhance their air quality during festive seasons.
