Uttarakhand: 8 Persons Die, Several Injured After A Bus Falls In A Gorge In Utarkashi

At least 8 persons were killed while 27 others were injured after a bus travelling from Gangotri to Uttarkashi falls in a gorge on the Gangotri national highway on Sunday.

A bus carrying 35 passengers from Gangotri to Uttarkashi fell into a gorge. The incident occurred around 4 pm.

According to Gaurav Kumar, the Chief Development Officer of Uttarkashi, 8 persons lost their lives, while 27 were rescued in an injured state. The rescue operation for the persons affected by the incident is still underway.

Earlier, Devendra Patwal, the Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), in a statement to PTI, asserted, "Seven people were killed and 27 others were injured after a bus carrying 35 people fell into a gorge near Gangani on the Gangotri national highway. "The injured had been transported to the hospital for treatment."

According to Patwal, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and other teams were carrying out the rescue operation. He further stated that they have identified the deceased and the injured. According to the preliminary information, the bus was carrying Gujarati pilgrims. The cause of the accident, according to officials, is also unknown at this time.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami mourned the death of persons who succumbed to injuries in the accident and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

CM Dhami took to X, formerly known as Twitter, "May God grant the departed souls peace and the bereaved family members strength to bear this loss. I wish all those injured a speedy recovery."

Dhami informed that he has directed the district administration to conduct relief and rescue operations as well as make proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured.
