UP News: Yogi Government Announces Relief for Farmers and Livestock Owners Amid Storm and Rain Damage

Uttar Pradesh has announced a broad storm relief package, directing ministers to assess damage and deliver rapid assistance. Eligible families receive Rs 4 lakh for fatalities; farmers get per-hectare grants for crop losses; livestock owners receive specified compensation. Real-time monitoring and a dedicated helpline support rapid, transparent relief distribution.

Amid widespread crop damage and loss of life caused by storms, heavy rainfall and lightning across Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has announced extensive relief measures for affected families. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district in-charge ministers to visit affected areas, meet victims' families and assess the ground situation.

The Chief Minister stated that the government stands firmly with the people during this difficult period and made it clear that any negligence in relief work would not be tolerated under any circumstances. CM Yogi has directed officials to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster. He has also instructed authorities to ensure speedy relief for farmers, livestock owners and other affected families. Compensation has also been fixed for crop losses and livestock damage.

Relief Commissioner Dr. Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod reviewed the damage caused by the natural disaster through video conferencing with District Magistrates and Additional District Magistrates of affected districts. Officials were instructed to personally visit affected families and ensure all necessary assistance reaches them without delay. The Relief Commissioner informed that continuous monitoring is being carried out through the control room established at the Relief Commissioner's office.

Following weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department, more than 34 crore red and orange alert warning messages were sent to the public through the Sachet portal. The government has also directed all district control rooms to remain on high alert and closely monitor relief operations. Immediate assistance is being provided through the disaster relief helpline number 1070.

As per the Chief Minister's instructions, District Magistrates have been asked to ensure 100 percent distribution of relief assistance through public representatives. Under the relief package, farmers suffering more than 33 percent crop damage will receive compensation. Financial assistance has been fixed at Rs 8,500 per hectare for rain-fed areas, Rs 17,000 per hectare for assured irrigated areas, and Rs 22,500 per hectare for 12-month crops and agroforestry.

This assistance will be provided to farmers owning up to two hectares of land. The government has also made provisions to provide assistance of up to Rs 18,000 per hectare for removal of silt and debris deposited in fields due to excessive rainfall. This measure is expected to help affected farmers resume cultivation at the earliest.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed District Magistrates to complete survey work quickly and transparently to ensure timely relief reaches all eligible beneficiaries. The Yogi government has also announced financial assistance for livestock owners.

Compensation of up to Rs 37,500 will be provided in case of death of milch animals such as cows and buffaloes. Assistance of Rs 32,000 has been fixed for non-milch animals including bulls and horses, while Rs 20,000 will be provided for calves, donkeys, mules and ponies. Livestock owners will also receive Rs 4,000 per animal for the loss of sheep, goats and pigs.

Considering the important role of animal husbandry in the rural economy, the initiative is being seen as a significant relief for affected rural families. The Chief Minister has reiterated that relief work must be carried out with complete transparency and urgency. The government is continuously monitoring the situation and reviewing relief distribution in affected districts to ensure farmers, livestock owners and rural families can return to normal life as soon as possible.
