Uttar Pradesh Labourer Shot In Kashmir Third Attack On Non-Local Workers In A Week

The victim, identified as Shubham Kumar from Bijnore, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm when terrorists opened fire in Batagund village. He was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment, where his condition has been reported as stable.

A Surge in Attacks on Non-Local Workers

This incident follows a spate of violence against non-local labourers in Kashmir. On October 20, a horrific attack at a construction site in Ganderbal district resulted in the deaths of six non-local workers and a local doctor. CCTV footage captured two armed terrorists, equipped with an American-made M4 carbine and an AK-47, spending several minutes at the workers' camp before the attack occurred, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The deceased workers were employed by APCO Infratech, a company engaged in constructing the Z-Morh tunnel along the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway. The attack occurred around 7:25 PM, targeting employees as they gathered for dinner in the camp's dining area, making it one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in recent months.

Just two days prior to this attack, on October 18, another labourer, Ashok Kumar Chavan from Bihar, was found shot dead in Shopian district. His body, recovered from the Wachi area of Zainpora, bore multiple gunshot wounds, indicating a targeted killing, as per media reports.

Rising Concerns for Non-Local Labourers

The recent surge in violence has raised significant concerns for non-local workers in Kashmir, as the region struggles with a resurgence of terrorist activity. Authorities are on high alert and are working to ensure the safety of all workers amid escalating threats. The situation remains critical, and the safety of non-local labourers continues to be a pressing issue in the volatile region.
