UP Shocker: Raped by father, 16-year-old pregnant girl says NO to abortion

Kanpur, Aug 4: A teenage girl was raped and impregnated by her father. The shameful incident came into notice when the girl and her elder brother gathered courage to file police complaint against their father.

Police arrested the man and sent him to jail. After conducting physical tests on July 20, doctors confirmed that the 16-year-old girl was 23 weeks and two days pregnant.

Contradictory reports made the case complicated. Some media reports claimed that a social worker took the girl to a hospital where doctors suggested her to abort the child, but the girl refused to do so.

The 16-year-old girl reportedly said that she refused to go for abortion as she wanted to give her baby (after delivery) to a childless couple.

However, other media reports claimed that the 16-year-old girl and her brother urged the doctors to terminate her pregnancy. But doctors refused so citing risk to her life.

Brother of the victim moved a court urging the authorities to shift his sister to a government shelter home as he expressed helplessness to bear responsibilities of his pregnant sister due to financial crisis.

The girl has already been moved to shelter home. Now, a court is expected to deliver judgment while taking the final decision about the abortion of the teenage girl.

It has been reported that the mother of the victim died two years back. She has three brothers and a younger sister. The shocking incident took place in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
