In Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district, Ravi Shriwas, 24, was allegedly murdered by his cousin's family after he visited her, leading to the arrest of three suspects; the woman, who was to be married, attempted suicide and remains in critical condition. Authorities are investigating the case, which involved a history of elopement and family disapproval, including a past incident where the couple had previously run away from her scheduled wedding.

Violent Confrontation Turns Deadly

The deceased, Ravi Shriwas, hailed from Jaspura in Banda district. Police said he visited Parchh village around noon on Wednesday to meet the 18-year-old woman he was in love with. Their meeting, however, took a tragic turn when the woman's uncle, Pintoo, found Ravi at the house.

Eyewitnesses revealed that a heated argument quickly erupted between the two. During the confrontation, Pintoo allegedly attacked Ravi with a knife. Soon after, he and other family members reportedly tied Ravi with a rope and assaulted him with sticks, resulting in his death on the spot.

Family's Attempt to Mislead Police

The accused then rushed Ravi to a local hospital, telling doctors he had consumed poison. They even produced an empty sulphas container as supposed evidence. However, medical staff noticed serious injury marks on Ravi's body and informed the authorities.

Following the discovery, Uma Shankar alias Kali Deen, Ravi's father, filed a formal complaint against five individuals from the woman's family. Hamirpur SP Deeksha Sharma confirmed the arrests of three suspects and stated that extra police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain order.

"The preliminary probe suggests Ravi was murdered inside the house. The woman's condition remains serious," SP Sharma said.

Girl Attempts Suicide After Lover's Death

Moments after the police arrived at the scene, the young woman reportedly slit her throat upon learning that Ravi had died. Locals rushed her to the Maudaha government hospital in an auto-rickshaw. She remains in critical condition and under medical supervision.

Her uncle Pintoo, who was also injured during the violent clash, received first aid and was later referred for further treatment.

Investigators later found that Ravi and the girl were first cousins. Ravi's family had moved from Parchh to Banda around two decades ago, but the two had maintained a close bond that later turned into a romantic relationship. Both families were aware of it but had strongly objected.

Tension Over Past Elopement and Arranged Marriage

Earlier this year, Ravi had reportedly eloped with the woman just four days before her wedding on June 2. She was recovered about two weeks later following police intervention, which escalated tensions between the two families.

Her family had since arranged another marriage, set for November 2 in Kadaura, Jalaun district. Police believe Ravi's visit on Wednesday was an attempt to convince her to flee with him again before the wedding, which enraged her relatives and led to the fatal assault.

Before leaving for Parchh, Ravi allegedly recorded a video expressing his frustration that her family had once more arranged her marriage against her will.

However, the woman's grandmother Kalli refuted these claims, saying her granddaughter had already broken ties with Ravi and agreed to marry a man chosen by the family. She alleged that Ravi arrived armed with a knife, attacked Pintoo first, and tried to abduct her granddaughter, sparking the confrontation.

Authorities said that a detailed investigation is ongoing, and the woman's official statement will be taken once she is stable enough to speak.
