"United Bangladesh": Chinmoy Krishna Das' Speech From Prison Van Goes Viral

Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu leader and former ISKCON member, was arrested in Bangladesh on sedition charges. His arrest led to significant protests from the Hindu community outside a Dhaka court. As he was taken away in a prison van, Das made a victory sign, urging his supporters to maintain peace while continuing their demonstrations until their demands are met.

Protests and Allegations

The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das has intensified protests against violence targeting minorities in Bangladesh. Visuals emerged showing police using force against Hindu community members protesting his detention. Allegations against Das include insulting the Bangladesh flag during a protest, which he denies. His supporters see his arrest as an attempt to silence minority voices.

In a video that went viral, Das addressed his followers from the police van, emphasising their responsibility towards the nation. He urged them not to disrupt peace but to persist with their protests until their demands are fulfilled. "We santanis have some responsibilities towards the nation," he said in Bengali.

Official Reactions and Clarifications

ISKCON Vice President Radha Ramn Das refuted claims that Chinmoy Krishna Das insulted the national flag. He clarified that another flag was mistakenly raised higher than the Bangladesh flag during a protest. He also mentioned that Chinmoy was detained without being informed of the reasons while travelling from Dhaka to Chittagong.

India's Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern over the incident, urging Bangladeshi authorities to ensure minority safety. They highlighted worries about attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against Chinmoy Krishna Das's arrest. The ministry called for protection and security for Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh.

Judicial Proceedings

Chinmoy Krishna Das's bail plea was rejected by Chittagong's Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Although police did not seek his remand, the court ordered him into judicial custody with religious privileges during detention. His arrest has sparked widespread reactions among his supporters, who view it as an effort to suppress minority voices in Bangladesh.

The situation remains tense as supporters continue to rally for Chinmoy Krishna Das's release and demand justice for minorities facing violence in Bangladesh. The ongoing protests highlight deep-rooted issues concerning minority rights and freedom of expression within the country.
