Jury's Deliberations and Criteria

The jury, composed of seven international conservation experts, meticulously evaluated 48 project entries from eight countries across the Asia-Pacific region. The projects were assessed based on their understanding of place, technical achievements, sustainability, and impact, as outlined in the awards criteria. The jury noted the diverse scope and typology of the entries, reflecting significant progress in heritage conservation awareness and practice within the region.

UNESCO's Commitment to Cultural Heritage Conservation

Since 2000, the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation program has celebrated the efforts of individuals and organizations in restoring, conserving, and transforming heritage structures and buildings. The program aims to inspire others to undertake conservation projects within their communities, fostering public-private partnerships and promoting sustainable development. In 2020, UNESCO introduced the Special Recognition for Sustainable Development category to acknowledge the role of cultural heritage in achieving the UN 2030 Agenda.

Conclusion

The UNESCO awards serve as a testament to the successful preservation and integration of cultural heritage into local development strategies. The awarded projects demonstrate how heritage can be preserved while simultaneously contributing to the sustainability and vibrancy of communities.
