Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, have died in the clashes that erupted in Nuh over an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession and spread to Gurugram.

A total of 393 people have been arrested and 118 taken into preventive detention in connection with the communal clashes in Haryana earlier this month. Besides, 160 FIRs have been registered in Nuh, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Rewari, Panipat, Bhiwani and Hisar, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said in a statement on Friday.

The violence broke out after a religious procession was attacked as a mob tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, pelting stones and setting cars on fire. According to some claims, the trigger for the violence was an objectionable video posted on social media in Ballabhgarh.

Reports claim that Monu Manesar, a well-known cow vigilante linked to the Bajrang Dal, had previously released video messages announcing his intention to join the yatra. However, he refrained from participating upon the advice of the VHP, as they were concerned that his presence might escalate tensions. Nonetheless, a rumour about his presence became the catalyst for the outbreak of violence.
