Twisha Sharma’s Brother Performs Her Last Rites On Brothers Day In Bhopal, Leaving Many Emotional

The last rites of 32-year-old model-actor Twisha Sharma are scheduled for 5pm on Sunday at Bhadbhada Ghat in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Family members said husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh will not attend the cremation. The case has drawn national attention as courts and investigators examine the circumstances of Twisha's death.

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. A special bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, with justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, will hear it on Monday, May 25. The court has titled the proceedings "Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Irregularities in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Her Matrimonial Home."

Twisha Sharma death case: second post-mortem and investigation

Before the funeral, a second post-mortem was conducted in Bhopal by a four-member AIIMS Delhi team. The procedure took place under security at AIIMS Bhopal, following directions from the Madhya Pradesh high court in Jabalpur. Twisha was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12.

Twisha’s family had approached the Madhya Pradesh high court seeking another autopsy. They alleged flaws in the initial investigation and raised doubts about the first post-mortem report. Twisha Sharma death case: family allegations and legal action

Relatives accused Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh of harassing Twisha over dowry. They also opposed the presence of both at the cremation. Twisha Sharma death case: arrest of Samarth Singh and custody

Police arrested Samarth Singh in Jabalpur on Friday. A district court has placed Samarth in seven days’ police custody, and questioning is continuing. An investigating officer, who is not authorised to speak publicly, shared details of Samarth’s version of events and the couple’s recent disputes.

According to the officer, Samarth claimed the relationship deteriorated after Twisha’s pregnancy was confirmed on April 17, 2026. The officer said, "Samarth Singh is claiming himself innocent and said his and Twisha's relationship was normal. Twisha's pregnancy was confirmed on April 17, 2026, after which Twisha said she didn't want a domesticated life as she had certain aspirations from her life."

Twisha Sharma death case: timeline of travels and disagreements

The officer stated that, after confirmation of the pregnancy, the couple returned from the hospital and tensions rose. "Upon returning from the hospital, Twisha expressed a desire to go to her home in Delhi. That very evening, she took a flight to Delhi and subsequently reached her home in Noida." Twisha’s mother and brother travelled with Twisha back to Bhopal on April 23.

Samarth reportedly told investigators that the couple initially planned a trip to Bengaluru on April 24. According to the officer, Samarth said Twisha rejected Bengaluru and insisted on visiting Ajmer instead, which led to friction. "Both families intervened for reconciliation, and the couple returned to Bhopal on April 30," the officer added.

The officer further said Samarth was upset after learning details of that journey. "Later, they argued after Samarth Singh learned that Twisha spent only one day in Ajmer and most of her time in Delhi. He said they fought over her remark that she belonged to the world of glamour and never wanted a confined domestic life," the officer said.

Twisha Sharma death case: events on May 12 and conflicting versions

Investigators have also recorded Samarth’s account of the day Twisha died. Samarth told police that on May 12, Twisha visited a beauty parlour, returned home around 6pm, went for a walk with Samarth, and then had dinner with the family. He claimed everything appeared routine at that stage.

Samarth further stated that Twisha went downstairs after dinner to speak on the phone, while Samarth slept in the room. Samarth said the alarm was raised when Giribala could not reach Twisha on calls. He then asked Giribala to check the rooftop. Samarth told police that Giribala discovered Twisha unresponsive there.

The officer said Samarth described what happened next in detail. "Samarth said he rushed...and attempted CPR before her two cousins who live in the neighbourhood, helped take her to AIIMS, where doctors declared her dead," the officer said. Police are examining call records and other electronic evidence to verify the sequence.

Twisha Sharma death case: father’s demand for CBI probe

Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has firmly rejected Samarth’s claim about sleeping while Twisha spoke on the phone. Navnidhi said, "When Twisha was talking over the phone, Samarth shouted from behind and she disconnected the phone so there is no point that he was sleeping in his room. He shared a fabricated story to influence the probe."

Navnidhi has asked for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into Twisha’s death. Navnidhi said, "We want the CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] to take over the case as soon as possible." The family believes an independent agency is needed, especially after the Supreme Court’s observations about possible institutional bias and procedural issues.
