Triple talaq: Historic day for Muslim women, says Shayara Bano
The Supreme Court today by a 3:2 majority struck down triple talaq.
Joy of the petitioners in triple talaq case knows no bounds after the Supreme Court bench banned instant talaq calling it unconstitutional in a historic verdict on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court today by a 3:2 majority struck down triple talaq. While the CJI and Justice Nazeer were in favour of the practise the other three judges observed that the practise was unconstitutional. The court held that triple talaq is manifestly arbitrary.
Shayara Bano, who was the first woman to challenge instant triple talaq in a court, says the SC judgment should be accepted. "I welcome the verdict and support it. This is a historic day for Muslim women," she says.
''State of Mulsim women should be studied. This judgment should be accepted and soon a legislation should be passed in this direction, says Shayara Bano.

The case had six petitioners: Muslim Women's Quest for equality, Khuran Sunnath Society, Shayara Bano, Aafreen Rehman, Gulshan Praveen, Ishrat Jahan, Atiya Sabri.
Three lawyers represented the petitioners- Advocate General of India Mukul Rohatgi and two more advocates Balaji Srinivasan and Mukesh Jain.
