FDI in Railways, Defence: Trinamool Congress protests against Modi govt in Parliament

government decided to increase the Foreign Direct Investment (

) cap in Defence and Indian Railways.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O'Brien earlier was quoted as saying, "This government is subverting democracy. Parliament is in session. They are stuck with FDI in insurance, they can't get it through the Rajya Sabha."

"So they are using the excuse that it's an executive decision to bring 100 percent FDI in railway and 49 percent in Defence," he added.

Continuing his statement, O'Brien also said, "This is totally bypassing democracy and highly arrogant and this is trying to smuggle in FDI through the backdoor in Railway and Defence."

Media report on Thursday claimed that during cabinet meeting on Wednesday it has been decided that FDI limit will be increased in defence to 49 percent and 100 percent FDI in railway infrastructure.
