Jharkhand Tribals to Ramp Up Agitation Against Bangladeshi Infiltrators

Former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren has called for a comprehensive investigation into "illegal" land transactions in the Santhal Parganas region. He also stated that tribals would escalate their protests against "Bangladeshi infiltrators" in the state. Soren, who recently joined the BJP from the JMM, made these remarks following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticism of the JMM-led coalition in Jharkhand for allegedly supporting infiltration.

Tribals Escalate Anti-Infiltrator Fight

Demand for Investigation

Soren emphasised that infiltration threatens the existence of tribal society. He pointed out that the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act, designed to protect tribal land rights, is being violated. "I demand a probe into all illegal land transactions in the region. The tribals are uniting and will oust the Bangladeshi infiltrators," Soren claimed.

Historical Context and Rally

Earlier in the day, Soren participated in a tribal rally where he paid homage to icons like Baba Tilka Manjhi and Veer Sido-Kanhu. He highlighted the historical resistance of the tribal community against colonial forces and stressed that their current struggle continues this legacy.

Support from Other Leaders

Former MLA Lobin Hembrom echoed Soren's views, stressing the need for a strong social movement to protect tribal land and culture. He warned that the "arbitrary sale" of land and erosion of cultural heritage could lead to the extinction of tribal communities.

Criticism of State Government

Sita Soren, former MLA of Jama, also criticised the Hemant Soren-led state government. She accused it of fostering a vote bank by allegedly shielding Bangladeshi infiltrators. She highlighted the "lack" of employment opportunities for locals despite the presence of big companies in the region, suggesting that only middlemen have benefitted under the current administration.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier accused infiltrators of grabbing land, changing the region's demography, and committing atrocities on women. His comments have intensified discussions on these issues within Jharkhand's political landscape.

The call for a thorough investigation into illegal land transactions and concerns about infiltration reflect deep-seated issues within Jharkhand's tribal communities. The ongoing agitation aims to address these challenges and protect their rights and heritage.
