Traffic, Metro, And Air Travel Advisory For Republic Day Celebrations 2025
As Republic Day approaches, Delhi is gearing up for celebrations with several travel restrictions in place. If you're planning to travel or fly out, it's crucial to be aware of these changes. From flight adjustments at the airport to road closures and altered metro schedules, here's a comprehensive guide to navigating Delhi during this festive period.
Flight Restrictions at IGI Airport
If you're flying in or out of Delhi between January 19 and 29, expect temporary airspace restrictions. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) will halt operations from 10:20 AM to 12:45 PM. Non-scheduled and chartered flights face additional restrictions from 10 AM to 1:15 PM. However, flights by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), and state-owned aircraft will continue as planned. It's advisable for passengers on non-scheduled flights to confirm details with their operators due to these limitations.

Delhi Metro Adjustments
To facilitate smooth travel for commuters heading to Kartavya Path, Delhi Metro services will commence at 4 AM on January 26. Trains will operate every 30 minutes until 6 AM before resuming their regular schedule. This adjustment ensures that passengers can reach the airport on time for early morning flights.
Traffic Advisory for Republic Day
The Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Republic Day celebrations and full dress rehearsal on January 23. The parade rehearsal begins at 10:30 AM from Vijay Chowk, proceeding towards Red Fort. To ensure a smooth parade, extensive traffic arrangements are in place along the route. Commercial vehicles of all types will be barred from entering Delhi between 10 PM on January 22 and 1:30 PM on January 23.
Noida Police have also released a traffic advisory for Republic Day. To maintain smooth traffic flow, goods vehicles from Gautam Budh Nagar into Delhi will face entry restrictions. Traffic management is primarily handled at Kalindi, DND, and Chilla borders with support from civil police at New Ashok Nagar, Jhundpura, and Haridarshan.
Avoiding Traffic Congestion
To navigate around potential traffic chaos, consider using alternative routes such as the Ring Road or NH-44. Roads like Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road may close starting at 10 PM on January 25. Parking near the parade route is prohibited; hence it's wise to use designated parking zones or public transport to avoid delays.
The entry points for entering Delhi from Noida include Kalindi, DND, Chilla, New Ashok Nagar, Vasundhara, Jhundpura, and Haridarshan. Heavy goods vehicles are diverted from these border points via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
With these measures in place, residents and visitors can enjoy the Republic Day festivities while ensuring minimal disruption to their travel plans.
