Man Fatally Attacks Ex-Girlfriend in Vasai as Onlookers Watch
In a shocking incident that unfolded on the streets of Vasai, a man brutally murdered his girlfriend by striking her head 18 times with a spanner. The attack, which took place in broad daylight on Friday, was witnessed by numerous bystanders, yet intervention was minimal. The assailant, identified as 32-year-old Rohit Yadav, and the victim, 22-year-old Arati Yadav, were known to be in a relationship for several years before the tragic event occurred.

Senior Inspector Jairaj Ranaware of Valiv Police Station confirmed that the victim sustained 18 wounds from the attack. The relationship between Rohit and Arati had soured recently, leading to speculation by Rohit about Arati's fidelity. Disturbingly, during the assault, Rohit was heard questioning why Arati had wronged him while he continued to hit her even after she had succumbed.
The Valiv police have since arrested Rohit Yadav and charged him with murder. A distressing video capturing the gruesome attack surfaced on social media, showing the large crowd that witnessed the incident without stepping in to stop the violence. The incident occurred around 8:30 am in the Chinchpada locality as Arati was on her way to work.
Further controversy arose when Arati Yadav’s sister accused the police of negligence. She claimed that despite previous complaints about Rohit's aggressive behavior towards Arati, including an instance where he allegedly threatened her and damaged her mobile phone, the police failed to take adequate action. According to her, their complaints were met with delays and inaction, which she believes contributed to her sister's untimely death.
However, Senior Inspector Balasaheb Pawar of Achole Police Station refuted these allegations, stating that a complaint was registered against Rohit for breaking Arati's mobile phone and that appropriate actions were taken against him. The incident has sparked outrage among the public and officials alike. Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe emphasized the need for a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women. Shiv Sena UBT leader Sushma Andhare suggested that the reluctance of bystanders to intervene might stem from fears of legal entanglements.
This tragic event has highlighted critical issues surrounding public safety, bystander intervention, and police responsiveness in cases of domestic violence and aggression. It raises important questions about societal attitudes towards violence against women and the mechanisms in place to protect potential victims.
