Tragic Attack In Manipur: Woman Killed And Four Injured In Latest Violence

A violent attack by heavily armed militants in Koutruk, Imphal West district of Manipur, resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to four others, including her daughter and a police commando.

Tragic Attack In Manipur

Officials reported that shots were fired from the hills surrounding the area, impacting a residential location. The woman sustained a fatal head injury, while her daughter was hit in the right arm. Both were promptly taken to hospitals. Two of the injured were admitted to Raj Medicity, a private hospital in Imphal, while the others were also hospitalized.

In addition to the gunfire, a house was damaged when militants dropped a bomb from a drone. Although no one was injured by the drone attack, one police commando, part of the reinforcement team, was injured by splinters from the bomb.

Security forces and police were dispatched to the scene immediately following the attack, and the gunfight continued until the report was filed at 6 p.m. The situation remains tense, with ongoing clashes in the area. This attack comes a day after Kuki-Zo groups staged protest rallies against Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts, which are predominantly Kuki-Zo.
