Tomato Rates Reduced To Rs 80 Per Kg In Delhi, Other Cities: Check Details
In a major relief to the common man, the Centre will sell tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg from Sunday, as against Rs 90 per kg earlier.
Starting today, tomatoes are being sold at Rs 80 per kilogram at various points in cities such as Delhi, NOIDA, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Consumer Cooperative Federation (NCCF) are overseeing the sales at these locations.
"After a re-assessment of the situation from across 500 plus points in the country, it has been decided to sell it at Rupees Eighty (80) per kg from today Sunday, July 16th, 2023. Sales have started today at several points each in Delhi, NOIDA, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur and Arrah through NAFED and NCCF. It will be expanded to more cities from tomorrow depending upon the prevailing market prices at such locations," an official statement said.
"After a re-assessment of the situation from across 500 plus points in the country, it has been decided to sell it at ₹ 80 per kg from today Sunday July 16th, 2023," it added.
Heavy rainfall in some regions has resulted in damage and loss of tomatoes, while inadequate showers in other areas have affected production and transportation. Agriculture experts predict that the cost is likely to escalate further, likely to touch Rs 300 per kg in the coming weeks.
Tomatoes are primarily cultivated in states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana. These states account for 91 percent of the country's total tomato production, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Currently, the supply of tomatoes is limited to southern and some northeastern areas.
