TN health minister meets PM Modi over NEET, a day after IT froze his properties
Tamil Nadu government has made the second representation in three weeks seeking exemption from NEET.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The AIADMK said that the meeting was to seek an exemption for Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test NEET. Vijaya Bhaskar's meet with the Prime Minister comes a day after the income tax department froze properties belonging to him.
In a statement, the AIADMK said that Vijayabaskar, who had been camping in Delhi, met the prime minister along with Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai once again and requested for NEET-exemption. The Tamil Nadu government has made its second representation in the last three weeks to the Prime Minister over the same subject.
On July 20, Vijaya Bhaskar met PM Modi along with a ministerial delegation. The delegation urged for the presidential assent to two bills adopted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in February. The assembly had passed bills that made way for the continuation of the UG medical admissions on the basis of Class XII marks while another sought to exempt Tamil Nadu from the ambit of NEET for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.
The meeting also comes a day after the Income Tax department ordered the freezing of Vijaya Bhaskar's properties including at his home town. The IT department sought for the minister's properties to be frozen over alleged tax evasion.
