TMC Vows Strict Action Against Wrongdoers in Sandeshkhali Incident

In a recent public address in Basirhat, West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), firmly stated the party's stance against any form of misconduct among its members. Amidst the backdrop of the Sandeshkhali incident in North 24 Parganas district, which drew significant criticism towards the TMC for alleged atrocities on villagers, Banerjee's speech underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards wrongdoing.

TMCs Firm Stance on Sandeshkhali

During his rally, the first by a senior TMC leader in Basirhat since last month's disturbances, Banerjee highlighted past actions taken against party members accused of misconduct. He cited the arrests of Shajahan Sheikh and Saradha group chairman Sudipto Sen by state police as evidence of the party's commitment to justice. "No Trinamool leader or panchayat representatives will be spared if they misbehave with anyone," Banerjee asserted, emphasizing the party's dedication to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks.

The TMC leader also took the opportunity to critique the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly regarding their stance on women's safety. Banerjee pointed out the BJP's failure to take decisive action against its members accused of harassing women, contrasting it with TMC's proactive measures in removing leaders like Uttam Sardar and Shajahan Sheikh from the party. "This is the difference between Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and the BJP," he remarked, highlighting his party's commitment to women's safety and empowerment.

Furthermore, Banerjee addressed concerns regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He criticized the BJP for demanding documents under the CAA while failing to provide a detailed account of funds released to Bengal post-2021 assembly elections. The TMC MP challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to guarantee that NRC would not follow CAA implementation, citing concerns over Hindu Bengalis rendered homeless after Assam's NRC. "As long as Mamata Banerjee is in Bengal, we will not allow NRC. This is our commitment to the people," Banerjee affirmed, emphasizing a vision of harmony over division.

Banerjee's statements at the rally reflect TMC's efforts to address internal issues and counter opposition criticisms head-on. By highlighting actions taken against misconduct within the party and reiterating commitments to societal issues such as women's safety and citizenship rights, TMC aims to reinforce its position and values in West Bengal's political landscape.
