TMC MP Jawhar Sircar asks if Jaishankar has amnesia, shares quote of his father on Gujarat riot
This comes after Jaishankar said that Indira Gandhi removed his father K Subrahmanyam from his post as a Union Secretary.
Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP and former bureaucrat Jawhar Sircar questioned whether External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is suffering from amnesia or if he is just 'cuddling up to the BJP for his unprecedented promotion as foreign minister.

Taking to Twitter, Jawhar Sircar wrote,''S Jaishankar's father, K Subramanyam said "Dharma was killed in Gujarat (2002 Riots). Those who failed to protect innocent citizens are guilty of adharma. Rama...would have used his bow against the 'Asura' rulers of Gujarat." Shame on son -serving Asura.''
Further, Rajya Sabha MP added, "Strange - that Jaishankar discovered his angst against the Gandhis - after serving them most loyally and taking the best of postings under them? Is it Amnesia or is he just cuddling up to BJP for his unprecedented promotion as Foreign Minister?"
For the unversed, Jawhar Sircar joined the TMC in 2021 ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections and was nominated by the party to contest the Rajya Sabha seat. His nomination was seen as a move by the TMC to bring in experienced administrators and technocrats into its fold. Prior to joining politics, Sircar had a long and distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and held various senior positions in the government. He served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati, the public broadcaster of India, from 2012 to 2016. He was also the Culture Secretary of India from 2008 to 2012.
This came after the External Affairs Minister in an interview with ANI, revealedan interesting piece of information about Gandhis' dislike towards his father late K Subrahmanyam, who is considered a doyen of India's strategic affairs community.
Jaishankar futher said that his father K Subramanyam was removed as Secretary of Defence Production by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after she returned to power in 1980. He further said that he was superseded during the Rajiv Gandhi period with someone junior to him becoming the Cabinet Secretary.
Jaishankar said his father was also a very upright person, "may be that caused the problem, I don't know". "But the fact was that as a person he saw his own career in bureaucracy, actually kind of stalled. And after that, he never became a Secretary again. He was superseded during the Rajiv Gandhi period for somebody junior to him who became a cabinet secretary. It was something he felt...we rarely spoke about it. So he was very, very proud when my elder brother became secretary," Dr Jaishankar added.
