Tirupati Laddu Row: Tirumala Temple To Hold 'Shuddhikaran Pooja'

In the wake of allegations that the revered 'prasadam' from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) in Andhra Pradesh contained animal fat, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken decisive steps to address the concerns by devotees. A significant move in this direction is the initiation of a 'Shuddhikaran Pooja' at the temple, set to take place on Monday (September 23). This ritual, aimed at purifying the temple, underscores the government's commitment to upholding the sanctity of the religious practices associated with TTD.

In response to these unsettling allegations, Chief Minister Naidu, following discussions with Agama Shastra advisors, has laid out a plan to conduct a Shanti Homa from 6 am to 10 am, which will be succeeded by a purification ceremony using Panchagavyam at the temple's golden well. "From 6 am to 10 am on Monday, Santhi Homam Panchagavya Prokshana will be done at the Bangaru Bavi (golden well) Yagashala (ritual place) in Srivari (Sri Venkateswara) temple," Naidu stated, emphasizing the significance of these rituals in restoring the temple's purity.

Investigative Measures and Public Sentiment

The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the accusations of adulteration involving the use of animal fats in the temple's 'prasadam'. This decision reflects a broader intent to scrutinize and rectify any malpractices that have marred the temple's offerings. Speaking at a press conference from his Undavalli residence, Naidu expressed his concern over the hurt sentiments of the people following the revelations. "An IG level or above officer-manned SIT will be formed. It will probe all the reasons and misuse of power and report to the government. The government will take stringent action to avoid recurrences (laddu adulteration); there is no compromise," Naidu elucidated, underscoring his administration's zero-tolerance policy towards any actions that compromise the faith and beliefs of the devotees.

The controversy has not only prompted immediate action from the state's chief but has also highlighted the deep cultural and religious significance of the 'prasadam' to the devotees. As the investigations proceed, the government's steps towards purification and accountability demonstrate a dedication to preserving the sanctity of religious practices and the sentiments of the faithful. Naidu succinctly captured the essence of the government's stance with his statement, "nobody has the right to play with people's sentiments," further reinforcing the commitment to maintaining the trust and faith of the millions who look towards the temple as a beacon of their beliefs.

To conclude, the swift response by the Andhra Pradesh government, marked by both ritualistic and investigative measures, reflects the seriousness with which the allegations of adulteration at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam are being taken. By ensuring that the temple undergoes purification rituals and setting up an SIT to investigate the accusations, the government is taking significant steps to address the concerns of the devotees and preserve the sanctity of the temple's offerings.
