Time Has Come For Kashmiri Pandits To Return To Their Homes In Jammu and Kashmir: Farooq Abdullah

Days after registering a thumping victory in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah urged for unity. He emphasized that the time is ripe for Kashmiri Pandits and others who left the region to return home. Abdullah hinted that the upcoming NC-Congress government is not adversarial and aims to include everyone in its administration.

"I hope that our brothers and sisters who have left from here come back home. Now the time has come, they should return to their homes. We do not think only about Kashmiri Pandits, but we also think about the people of Jammu, we should treat them well, they should also feel that the National Conference government is not their enemy. We are Indians and we want to take everyone along," Abdullah told reporters.

Focus on Statehood Restoration

Abdullah reiterated his call for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He believes this step is essential for effective governance. "The biggest issue here is unemployment... Our priority will be to unite Jammu and Kashmir and end the hatred spread in this election. Statehood must be restored so that the state can function..." he said.

The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits occurred during the 1990s due to escalating terrorism in the Valley. Many fled, leaving behind their homes and possessions in Jammu and Kashmir, settling across various parts of India.

Abdullah's message comes as a significant gesture towards reconciliation and inclusivity. His emphasis on unity aims to bridge divides within the region, fostering a sense of belonging among all communities.

The NC chief's statements reflect a broader vision for peace and cooperation in Jammu and Kashmir. By advocating for statehood restoration, Abdullah seeks to address key issues like unemployment while promoting harmony among diverse groups.

As preparations for forming a new government unfold, Abdullah's remarks underscore a commitment to rebuilding trust among residents. His call for returning home resonates with many who long for stability in their homeland.
