Threat call to Karnataka minister genuine say police

New Delhi, Oct 26: The threat call made to Karnataka State Sports, Youth Affairs and Fisheries Minister K Abhayachandra Jain was genuine and not a prank call, police sources say.

The police however add that they have verified the number and also picked up details about the caller and it appears that the same was genuine in nature.

The police however say that these are preliminary conclusions and they are investigating the matter further. There is a standard operational procedure to be followed in such cases and we have sought the help of the intelligence bureau to get us further details about the call.

In a complaint filed, the minister Jain said that he had received a threat call from a person who has claimed to be underworld don Ravi Poojary. It was stated that the call was made from a number starting 5065 at around 12.45 PM on Saturday. Since the call from made through a VoIP, the police have also sought the help of the cyber crime cell.

In his complaint, the minister claimed that the caller said that he was aware that Jain and another minister were involved in the murder of Bajrang Dal activist, Prashanth Poojary. The minister told the police that he had told the caller that he was not involved in the murder.

The minister also informed the Chief Minister and Home Minister about this. Security was beefed up at the minister's residence and the police say that they do not want to take any chances.
