The Sabarmati Report Receives Tax-Free Status in Haryana Following CM Nayab Saini's Announcement

The Hindi film "The Sabarmati Report," which depicts the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, has been declared tax-free in Haryana. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini made this announcement after viewing the film with its cast, presenter Ektaa Kapoor, and producer Amul Mohan. This decision exempts the film from entertainment taxes in the state.

Other states governed by the BJP, such as Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, have also granted tax-free status to the film. "The Sabarmati Report" was released in theatres on November 15. The film stars Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna in prominent roles. It is directed by Dheeraj Sarna, produced by Amul Mohan, and presented by Ektaa Kapoor.

Film's Historical Context and Impact

Chief Minister Saini stated that the film accurately portrays historical events. He compared it to "The Kashmir Files," which highlighted the plight of displaced Kashmiri Hindus. On February 27, 2002, a coach of the Sabarmati Express was set on fire near Godhra station, resulting in the deaths of 59 people, mostly kar sevaks, sparking widespread riots in Gujarat.

Saini expressed his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the film reveals the truth about the Godhra incident. He emphasised that truth cannot remain hidden indefinitely and praised the actors for their courage in bringing this story to light. He encouraged residents of Haryana to watch the film with their families.

Political Reactions and Film's Message

During a press interaction, Saini was accompanied by Ektaa Kapoor and state BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli. He mentioned that some individuals attempted to politicise the train incident for personal gain. However, he believes that the film presents an honest account of events and serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives.

Saini highlighted that "The Sabarmati Report" sensitively depicts the tragic event where passengers were burned alive. He reiterated that the film aims to bring out the reality of what happened during that time.

The decision to make "The Sabarmati Report" tax-free reflects its significance in portraying historical truths. By exempting it from taxes, more people may be encouraged to watch and understand this crucial part of history.
