The Kerala Story trailer has been tweaked to the story of three girls

The trailer of The Kerala Story has changed from the earlier narrative of 32,000 women from the state joining the Islamic State.

The trailer on YouTube now tells the story of three young girls from different parts of Kerala. Earlier Congress MP from Kerala Shashi Tharoor had criticised the film makers for gross exaggeration and distortion of Kerala's reality.

The movie has been mired in controversy over the numbers that have been cited by the film maker. Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders of the opposition have called for a ban on the film on the ground that it aims at promoting communal disharmony. Petitions were filed in the courts to seeking a ban on the film.

The Indian Union Muslim League youth offered a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone proving that 32,000 Kerala women had joined the Islamic State.

The initial trailer claimed that the film depicted the heart-breaking and gut wrenching stories of 32,000 women from Kerala. The movie is produced by Sunshine Productions and now according to the trailer, it tells the story of three young girls from Kerala.

"A spine-chilling, never told before true story - revealing a dangerous conspiracy that has been hatched against India. The Kerala Story is a compilation of the true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala. The Truth Shall set us free! Thousands of Innocent women have been systematically converted, radicalized & their lives destroyed. It's their side of the story," reads the description of the trailer now.

Tharoor had earlier challenged the numbers and said that the Western Intelligence had said that the number of women from Kerala joining the Islamic State was less than 100.

The filmmakers have now changed the trailer on YouTube and removed the 32,000 figure. It has been replaced with the 'true stories' of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.

"The plot thickens. The filmmakers have updated the movie's description on YouTube and changed '32,000 women' to '3 women'... I rest my case," Tharoor said after the changes were made.

The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma is set for a theatrical release on May 5.
