The arrest of Abdus Subhan Qureshi and decoding “Operation BAD”

For the special cell of the Delhi police, the nabbing of Abdus Subhan Qureshi was a major achievement. Qureshi alias Tauqeer had been living in Nepal with fake documents and during his visit to India, he was caught.

Subha is a prized catch for a variety of reasons. He is one of the founding members of the Indian Mujahideen. He will help agencies understand the formation of the group and also the other plans that they had to cause destruction in India.

The mastermind of the Gujarat blasts, he was the brain behind IM's most deadly operation call "Operation BAD." Operation Bangalore Ahmedabad Delhi was planned by Subhan and the Bhatkal brothers, Riyaz and Iqbal.

On September 13 2008, when a series of blasts rocked Delhi, a call was made from the Sabarmati jail to a person in Pakistan.

This call was intercepted and the person on the phone was heard telling his Pakistani counterpart that "Operation BAD" had been accomplished. Subhan was one of the main brains behind this operation, investigators had revealed.

Investigations had revealed that Subhan and his associates had planned two hits first in Bangalore and Ahmedabad. This was primarily because both the states were ruled by the BJP. This was followed up by a big operation in the national capital, Delhi in a bid to garner attention.

The call that was intercepted confirming the completion of "Operation BAD" was made to an operative called Rasool Khan in Pakistan. It was also found that a Hyderabad based operative lodged in the Gujarat jail had made the call confirming the news.
