Three individuals have been apprehended in Mumbai and Thane for their involvement in separate incidents of stone pelting on trains, which resulted in injuries to two women, according to police officials. The arrests were made following a series of such attacks that took place on Thursday.

stone pelting

In one incident, two people were arrested for allegedly hurling stones at an AC local train en route to CSMT from Maharashtra's Thane district. This unfortunate event left a woman commuter injured. An official disclosed that the AC suburban train was journeying from Titwala to CSMT in Mumbai when it was targeted with stones between Thakurli and Dombivali during the morning rush hours.

The impact of the stones damaged a window and caused injury to a 28-year-old female passenger onboard the train. The authorities managed to identify and arrest two suspects after reviewing footage from CCTVs installed within railway premises.

Stone Pelting at Kurla Railway

In another development, Kurla railway police reported that they had arrested Mohan Namdeo Kadam, aged 45, on Thursday morning for his alleged involvement in throwing stones at both a Karjat Fast suburban train and the Latur Express.

The control room received information about stone pelting incidents occurring on these trains while they were between Nahur and Mulund (Karjat Fast local) and between Thane and Mulund (Latur Express). A woman named Vaishnavi Salvi who was travelling on board the Karjat Fast local sustained nose injuries due to this reckless act of vandalism and had to be rushed to hospital for treatment.

Kadam was captured after he was observed loitering suspiciously near the tracks. Upon questioning by law enforcement officers, he admitted his guilt regarding throwing stones at the trains.

In conclusion, these incidents of stone pelting on trains are a serious concern for railway authorities and commuters alike. They not only cause damage to public property but also pose a significant threat to the safety and lives of passengers. The swift action taken by the police in apprehending these culprits sends out a strong message against such acts of vandalism. It is hoped that this will deter potential offenders and help maintain a safe environment for all train travellers in Mumbai and Thane.
