Wanted Terrorist Riyaz Ahmad Shot Dead Inside Mosque in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir
Riyaz Ahmad alias Abu Qasim, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, was killed by unidentified gunmen inside a mosque in POK. He was involved in the Dhangri terror attack that resulted to seven deaths and 13 injuries.
The Indian security apparatus has been dealt a significant blow by the death of a wanted terrorist, Riyaz Ahmad alias Abu Qasim, who was shot dead in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) on Friday. The incident occurred inside a mosque during pre-dawn prayers, marking the fourth such killing of an influential terrorist commander operating from across the border this year.

Riyaz Ahmad, known for his association with the banned group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was one of the chief conspirators behind the gruesome Dhangri terror attack that took place on January 1. This horrific event resulted in seven deaths and left thirteen people injured when terrorists indiscriminately fired upon civilians within Rajouri district's Dhangri village. Moreover, an improvised explosive device (IED) was found at the scene which detonated on the following morning.
Notorious Terrorist Leader
Originally from Jammu region, Ahmad had crossed over to POK in 1999 and rapidly established himself as a key figure within LeT's operations. He was widely regarded as instrumental in revitalizing terrorism activities within twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. His actions led to increased tensions along these sensitive areas further straining Indo-Pak relations.
A Strategic Loss for LeT
Sources quoting reports from POK have confirmed that Ahmad was killed by unidentified gunmen inside Al-Qudus mosque located in Rawalakot area during pre-dawn prayers. Notably, he primarily operated out of LeT’s base camp situated in Muridke but had recently relocated to Rawalakot.
Ahmad also held close ties with Sajjad Jaat - Chief Commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba - and played crucial roles beyond planning terror attacks. He managed financial aspects for this outlawed outfit, which is a critical aspect of any terrorist organization's operations. His death marks the fourth top commander of LeT to be killed this year.
While his killing will undoubtedly disrupt LeT's activities in the short term, it remains to be seen how much impact it has on their overall operations. The Indian security forces must remain vigilant against any attempts by such organizations to regroup or escalate their activities following such setbacks.
Conclusion
The killing of Riyaz Ahmad alias Abu Qasim is indeed a significant development in India's ongoing fight against terrorism. His demise represents not just the loss of an influential figure within the Lashkar-e-Taiba but also a severe blow to their operational capabilities and strategic planning. However, while this event may serve as a temporary setback for the terror outfit, it underscores the need for continued vigilance and robust counter-terrorism measures by Indian security forces. The fight against terrorism is far from over; every victory counts but complacency can lead to devastating consequences.
