Telangana: Madhavi Latha Detained For Staging Protest In Secunderabad After Muthyalamma Temple Idol Vandalised

Tensions have risen in Secunderabad, Telangana, following the alleged vandalism of a temple early on Monday. The Muthyalamma temple's idol was reportedly desecrated, sparking outrage among locals. One person was apprehended by residents and handed over to the police. In response, security measures have been heightened, and efforts are being made to restore peace, according to officials.

A significant number of locals gathered near the temple to protest and demand action against those responsible for the incident. BJP leaders joined the demonstrations, with several, including Madhavi Latha, being detained. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy visited the site and engaged with the protesters. He described the incident as "shameful" and accused certain individuals of intentionally trying to incite communal tensions.

Political Reactions

Reddy stated that "some people saw him, caught him, and handed him over to the police." He further claimed that these actions were not motivated by theft but aimed at insulting Hindu society. According to Reddy, similar incidents have been occurring across Hyderabad, with some individuals deliberately attempting to provoke communal unrest.

Telangana BJP spokesperson Tulla Veerender Goud expressed concerns about the safety of Hindus and their temples under Congress rule. He referred to this as "yet another attack on Hindu temples" in Telangana and urged the Revanth Reddy government to "act quickly and arrest the culprits." Former minister and BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav also visited the temple in response to the incident.

Previous Incidents

A similar event took place in Hyderabad on October 12 when an individual was arrested for allegedly damaging a Goddess Durga idol at a Puja pandal at Nampally Exhibition Grounds in Begum Bazar. Police reported that the person was homeless and hungry; while searching for food, he accidentally disturbed the prasadam, leading to damage of the idol.

The recent events have heightened concerns about communal harmony in Telangana. Authorities are working diligently to address these issues and ensure safety for all communities in the region.
