Tamil Nadu Polls: BJP Appeals To Vijay To Join NDA To Avoid Split In Anti-DMK Votes

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections expected to be announced soon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appealed to actor-turned-politician Vijay to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The party said that a united opposition is necessary to prevent the division of anti-DMK votes in the upcoming elections.

BJP Claims Political Situation in Tamil Nadu Is Changing

Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson A. N. S. Prasad said the political landscape in the state is rapidly evolving and suggested that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is facing growing public dissatisfaction.

The DMK government, led by M. K. Stalin, has been strengthening its Secular Progressive Alliance by bringing more smaller parties into its fold.

According to Prasad, this move reflects the ruling party's concerns about its electoral prospects.

Alliance Politics Creating Tensions, Says BJP

The BJP spokesperson also pointed to recent developments within the DMK-led alliance.
He referred to the decision to allocate a Rajya Sabha seat to the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), claiming the move has reportedly caused dissatisfaction among some long-standing alliance partners.

Prasad alleged that parties such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Left parties may not be fully satisfied with the arrangement.

BJP Highlights Public Concerns

According to the BJP leader, public dissatisfaction in Tamil Nadu has been increasing due to several issues.

He claimed that concerns about law and order, rising prices, and allegations of corruption have contributed to growing criticism of the current government.

Prasad argued that these issues could create an opportunity for opposition parties to challenge the ruling alliance in the next election.

BJP Appeals to Vijay for Opposition Unity

In his statement, Prasad made a direct appeal to Vijay, whose party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is preparing to enter electoral politics.

He said opposition parties should work together to avoid dividing votes that could otherwise challenge the ruling government.

The BJP leader warned that if anti-DMK votes are split among multiple parties, it could indirectly benefit the ruling party.

Vijay's Political Position

Since entering politics, Vijay has taken a distinct position in Tamil Nadu's political landscape.

While he has often criticised the DMK government, he has also described the BJP as an ideological opponent.
