Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa rolls out gift pack scheme
Chennai, Jan 7: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today formally kicked off pongal gift scheme for ration-card holders that would benefit about 1.91 crore families.
Jayalalithaa had announced Pongal Gift Pack for ration-card holders which include Rs 100 as cash for the harvest festival to be celebrated on January 15.
In a formal roll out of scheme, Jayalalithaa handed over the gift pack to five families at the Secretariat here, an official release said. Besides Rs 100 cash, the gift pack comprises one each kilo of rice and sugar, two sugarcanes of two feet,and it would be distributed ahead of the festival.
