Taj Mahal a Hindu temple? Here's what Modi govt said in Parliament
New Delhi, Dec 1: Amidst several theories and claims, Modi Government finally conceded that there is no evidence that Taj Mahal was once a Hindu Temple. While answering to a question, the Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma informed the Lok Sabha that Government has not found any evidence regarding the same.
The Union Minister also informed the Mps in the House that he was well aware about the whole controversy but so far government didn't observe that 'Taj Mahal ownership row' has taken toll on the tourism.
In March this year a group of lawyers had filed a lawsuit, claiming that the Taj Mahal which was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan was originally a Shiva temple.
The suit also demanded that 17th century Mughal monument's ownership be transferred to Hindus and Muslims be restrained from offering prayers there.
Later, a civil court in Agra had dismissed the lawsuit.
