Karnataka votes on May 10 and all parties are banking on the swing-seats.

In the 2018 elections there were 74 constituencies where the margin was less than 10,000 votes. It is these constituencies which would make all the difference for all political parties. All the three parties, BJP, Congress and JD(S) are keeping a close tab on these seats as this could change their fortunes.

In the 74 seats, the Congress won 37, BJP, 27 and JD(S)10 in 2018. Out of the 74, the margin was less than 1,000 in five constituencies. In the Maski constituency, the winning margin was just 213. In Aland it was 697, while in Pavagada it was just 409. Further there were 24 seats in which the victory margin was just 5,000 votes.

A political analyst tells OneIndia that these 74 seats could be the deciding factor. These are undecided voters and they could vote in any direction. Hence these constituencies become important going ahead in the elections, the analyst also said.

A Congress leader said that it is hopeful of doing well in these constituencies. The party has targeted 18 of these constituencies as it hopes to better its performance when compared to 2018.

The BJP too is targeting these constituencies. Of the 104 seats that the party won in 2018, the BJP won by a margin of over 10,000 in 77 seats. In the case of the Congress, the victory margin was over 10,000 in 42 of the 79 seats.

A senior BJP leader told this correspondent that the Prime Minister's rallies were clearly aimed at targeting these swing voters. The rally in Bengaluru was clearly aimed at targeting the undecided voters, the BJP leader also said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally was 36 kilometres long and focused on 17 constituencies. Political analysts say that the rallies in Bengaluru were crucial as it has been seen in the past elections that the urban voters have been the most undecided. It is this data that all parties have taken into account before unleashing their final legs of the campaign in the urban areas, another political analyst said.
