Suvendu Adhikari Salary as Bengal CM: Income, Assets and Wealth Explained

Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to become the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal after being elected leader of the BJP legislature party on Friday. As attention shifts to the new government, many are now searching for details about Suvendu Adhikari's salary as Bengal CM, along with his income, declared assets and overall financial profile.

As Chief Minister of West Bengal, Adhikari is expected to receive a monthly salary of around Rs 1.17 lakh, which totals roughly Rs 14.04 lakh annually. Under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the salary and allowances of chief ministers are decided by respective state legislatures, meaning pay structures vary across states.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government is scheduled to take place at Brigade Parade Ground on May 9 after BJP secured a historic victory in West Bengal and chose Adhikari as legislature party leader. Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally announced Adhikari's selection after the legislature party meeting.

Adhikari's elevation follows his major political victories in the 2026 Assembly elections, where he won two seats, including defeating Mamata Banerjee from Bhabanipur after previously defeating her in Nandigram.

According to Suvendu Adhikari's 2026 election affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India and accessed through the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the BJP leader has declared total assets worth Rs 85.87 lakh and zero liabilities.

The affidavit shows Adhikari has only Rs 12,000 in cash and owns no car or gold jewellery. His movable assets are valued at Rs 24.57 lakh, including bank deposits, savings instruments and insurance policies.

Adhikari holds 14 bank accounts across institutions such as Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, IDBI Bank and cooperative banks in Contai and Nandigram. Combined balances across these accounts total around Rs 7.34 lakh.

A major portion of his savings is invested in government-backed schemes. National Savings Certificates account for Rs 5.45 lakh, while Kisan Vikas Patras are valued at Rs 2.60 lakh. His postal savings account contains Rs 60,523, and six LIC insurance policies together are valued at Rs 7.71 lakh.

The affidavit also mentions shares worth Rs 14,240 in Contai Co-operative Bank and Card Bank.

Adhikari's immovable assets are valued at Rs 61.30 lakh and are concentrated mainly in Purba Medinipur district, considered the political stronghold of the Adhikari family. Agricultural land in Nandigram is declared at Rs 9.05 lakh, while non-agricultural plots across Panchdaria, Dharmadasbar, Karkuli and Sinachurajalpai are valued at Rs 27.50 lakh.

Three residential properties, including flats in Tamluk and Kumarpur along with a jointly owned ancestral property in Karkuli, are together valued at Rs 24.75 lakh.

His income has also shown significant growth over the last few years. According to his 2024-25 Income Tax Return, Adhikari declared annual earnings of Rs 17.38 lakh through MLA salary, MP pension and business income.

The affidavit data shows his income rose from Rs 8.13 lakh in 2020-21 to Rs 17.38 lakh in 2024-25, more than doubling within four years.
