Supreme Court Releases New Flag - Here's What President Murmu Said

The newly unveiled flag features key symbols of India's legal and cultural heritage, including the Ashoka Chakra, the Supreme Court building, and the Constitution of India. The flag is blue in color, and the insignia bears the inscription 'Supreme Court of India' along with the Sanskrit phrase 'Yato Dharmastato Jayah' in Devanagari script.

This phrase translates to "Where there is Dharma, there is victory," underscoring the principles of righteousness and justice upheld by the Court. In her address, President Murmu praised the Supreme Court for its pivotal role in upholding justice and strengthening public trust in the legal system.

She acknowledged the invaluable contributions of past and present members of the judiciary and highlighted the ongoing issue of case backlogs. Emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to reduce the pendency of cases, the President called for more frequent initiatives such as special Lok Adalat weeks to expedite case resolution.

President Murmu also proposed the establishment of a local-level justice system, similar to the powers granted to Panchayats and Municipalities by the Constitution. She suggested that providing justice in local languages and conditions could make the judiciary more accessible to the public.

Addressing collaboration among the judiciary, government, and police, the President stressed the importance of improving evidence and witness protection. She voiced concern over delays in justice delivery, particularly in heinous crimes like rape, which she believes can undermine public confidence in the judicial process.

President Murmu's speech also touched on the broader societal issue of individuals with resources evading justice while victims continue to live in fear. She urged for reforms to ensure that justice is not only delivered but is also seen to be delivered fairly.

Overall, the unveiling of the new Supreme Court flag and insignia, coupled with President Murmu's insightful remarks, marks a significant moment in the evolution of India's judiciary and reflects a continued commitment to enhancing the justice system.
