Supreme Court Refuses To Hear BRS Leader K Kavitha's Bail Plea In Delhi Liquor Policy Case

The Supreme Court of India on Friday refused to hear the bail application of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and daughter of K Chandrashekhar Rao K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. According to the reports, the Apex court told the BRS leader to approach the trial court first as approaching the top body directly is against a uniform policy.

The court said just because she is a politician and can afford to approach the top court directly, it doesn't mean they have the privilege, reminding her representatives that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested K Kavitha last Friday under the PMLA Act.

News agency PTI reported that the bench hearing bail request told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Kavitha, "The petition challenging the provisions will come up with the pending matters."

According to the ED, Kavitha is allegedly linked to a 'South Group' in the Delhi excise policy, and "In exchange of these favors, she was involved in paying Rs 100 crore to the leaders of AAP."

At the time of Kavitha's arrest, her brother and senior BRS leader KTR Rao had a heated war of words with Enforcement Directorate officials. The video of the incident went viral on the Internet, in which, he can be heard saying "You are in serious trouble. The search is over and an arrest warrant is produced and now she (ED official) says you cannot come in. Family cannot come in and she also says they have no transit warrant and cannot produce before a magistrate, but she wants to make a case."
