Jayalalithaa acquitted in DA case: AIADMK, supporters celebrate, burst crackers outside Amma's house

Chennai, May 11: Celebrations began outside Jayalalithaa's residence as soon as the news of her acquittal in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court on Monday reached the supporters.

AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister, Jayalalithaa was acquitted in the disproportionate assets case against her on the appeal filed by the former Tamil Nadu CM and three others including her aide Sasikala in the case.

Party cadres jumped in joy and burst crackers. They chanted "Long Live Amma" and distributed sweets.

Some smashed coconuts on the ground, as an auspicious sign.

J Jayalalithaa is at her Poes Garden residence in Chennai and people are dancing, waving flags and posters of Ammaand celebrating outside her residence.

AIADMK cadres had assembled outside Jayalalithaa's residence since morning here and were waiting with bated breath for the court's decision.

AIADMK leaders and activists are praying that Monday should turn out to be lucky for their `Amma' -- party chief J. Jayalalithaa.

The court struck down the verdict given by a trial court in the Rs.66.65 crore disproportionate assets case in an appeal filed by Jayalalithaa.
