Sunanda Pushkar Case: What was Shashi Tharoor asked and what he answered

New Delhi, Feb 12: Shashi Tharoor was questioned for five hours today and with the investigators almost certain that an IPL angle led to the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the entire questioning was around that angle.

Unlike the last time, Tharoor did not have an easy questionnaire today. While the last time it was more about the relationship he shared with his wife, this time around there were hardcore questions posed regarding the IPL issue.

Questions:

The questioning began with some pointers towards his relationship with his wife. There have been fresh angles cropped up since the last time he was questioned.

Was Sunanda Pushkar used as a front in the IPL transaction pertaining to the Kochi Tuskers team? Did he advise her to give up her sweat equity of Rs 75 crore?

Was she holding any money which she was refusing to give up when it was asked for? Did the IPL issue lead to the strained relationship between the two of you? Why had Sunanda told a journalist that she was covering your crimes?

Answers:

Sources say that all these questions were answered. While he did mention the controversy, he, however, said that she was under no pressure and neither was the sweat equity given up under duress.

It was a decision that was taken and the issue did not come up between the two of us, Tharoor also told the police.

Tharoor also made it clear that he had pointed out earlier and would say it again that his wife was not a proxy. He even said that the sweat equity was not meant for him and hence she could not be called as a proxy for him.

IPL centric probe:

The Delhi Police Commissioner had earlier stated that the IPL angle would be one of the main focus during the investigation. It is relevant to the case and will help us understand the conspiracy better.

In addition to the IPL angle Tharoor was also asked a few questions that were posed to him the first time he was probed. This is a routine exercise that is done to find out if there are discrepancies in his statements.

The police which had said earlier that he is being treated as a witness in the case now say that they are probing further. We have not concluded whether he is an accused or witness as there is a long way to go and we are looking at it from all possible angles.

Economic Offences Wing steps in:

Today apart from the five member Special Investigating Team an officer of the Economic Offences Wing too was present at the questioning of Tharoor.

Mangesh Kashyap the Deputy Commissioner of Police with the Economic Offences Wing sought to know about the pattern involved in the ownership of the IPL team.

Questions pertaining to the Rs 75 crore sweat equity and the rest of the money transaction done in the IPL issue were also asked by the officer.

The Delhi SIT will now call in Narayan Singh the domestic help and Bajrangi the driver for questioning for the second time.
